Acacia Lopez wins fellowship award

Congratulations to Acacia Lopez, M.S., for winning the American Psychological Association's Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services! The pre-doctoral fellowship is awarded through a federal grant to APA from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This prestigious fellowship comes with three years of financial support, additional support for travel and research, training and enrichment opportunities, assistance with the clinical internship application process, and a lifetime membership to a network of professionals focused on minority behavioral health issues. Emily Williamson wins award

Four Grandfamilies Lab students presented posters at the MSU Shackhouls Honors College Research Symposium: Zoe Fokakis, Kelly Coble, Delaney Peterson, and Emily Williamson.  Emily was awarded third place in the Social Sciences Category for her poster titled "The Wear and Tear of Raising Grandkids: Impact of Custodial Grandparent Status on Physical and Cognitive Difficulties in a Nationwide Sample."

Dr. Nadorff awarded Cross-College grant

​Nadorff, D.K., Wilmoth, J.D., & Lantz, E.D. (2017). Counting your blessings: Improving mental health outcomes through gratitude training in a custodial grandchild population. Agency: Mississippi State University Cross-College Research Grant Program. Funding: $2,000 (and eligible for one $2,000 renewal). Program period: Oct. 1, 2017-Sep. 30, 2018.

Dr. Nadorff awarded RAPP Grant

The Grandfamilies Support Group of Starkville, MS (Program Director/Primary Investigator: Dr. Danielle K. Nadorff of Mississippi State University) has been awarded one of 15 slots as a national Relatives As Parents Program (RAPP) group for the 2017 - 2018 year. The initial award is $10,000, with the ability to apply for an additional $5,000 on a yearly basis, contingent upon progress made toward program goals.
